About 1 hour and 15 minutes by car from our agritourism, specifically in the vicinity of the village of Collagna in the Municipality of Ventasso, are the Water Gardens, a renowned theme park where fish are bred. Particularly suitable for those traveling with the family, the park offers a variety of leisure, cultural and relaxation activities, during which, accompanied by expert guides, you can discover the secrets of water and the life that surrounds it. The numerous activities include trails with varying degrees of difficulty for the enjoyment of children and adults of all ages.
First of all, in the company of the guides you can take an interesting Guided Tour through which you can learn about the stages of trout breeding and management from the egg stage to the spawning stage. The tour is divided into 8 stages: 1st stage educational showcases, on which the biological and reproductive cycles of trout in the natural environment and in breeding are illustrated; 2nd stage vertical embryonators, i.e., the containers in which the incubation of trout eggs takes place from fertilization until a few days before hatching; 3rd stage weaning tanks, where trout eggs are placed on special baskets 2-3 days before hatching; 4th stage race-way, the tanks with trout that become spawners at the third year of age; 5th stage fish pond, in which you can see char and golden trout that are already of considerable size; 6th stage spawning pond, where you can see the entire spawning stock divided by species they belong to; 7th stage river aquarium, upon entering which it seems as if you are diving among the trout; 8th stage sturgeon pond, where you can admire in addition to sturgeon the Leopard and Golden trout spawners.
Also of interest is the Nature Trail, which brings together the most representative themes of nature in these places. It was created with the intention of recreating the typical environmental situations found along the trails of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines National Park. The trail is divided into stages related to the environments visited: Botanical Garden Stage, Apennine Stream Stage, View-Point Stage and Lakes Stage. Accompanied by expert guides, it is also possible to practice Fishing experience in the Forest Domain and the Royal Abetina. Permitted fishing techniques are eco-friendly ones, i.e. with artificial lures, spinning or fly fishing techniques, with single hook without barb. Mediterranean Trout caught must be released immediately after capture (Catch & Release).
And it doesn’t end there, it is also possible to practice Canyoning, which consists of walking along the banks of a stream accompanied by experienced guides. Practicing this activity is like discovering a wild and unexplored territory, a world made of water and rock, where flora and fauna come together to create magical glimpses of life. The Gardens also offer guided River Trekking excursions along some of the most beautiful rivers and streams in the ridge. These pleasant walks can be a source of culture, recreation and fun for all ages. The trails are also suitable for children ages 6 and up. There is even a Fishpond within the farm where in the period from May to September it is possible to fish for take-away food consumption or to enjoy a grilled trout at the park’s refreshment stand. From October to April, on the other hand, the fishpond is home to a wonderful Rainbow Trout Spawning Park.
